Hi friends, thanks for stopping here. Last month I visited Greenwich, it was an amazing trip and would like to share with you my experiences and findings. Today I would like to share with you about Greenwich Foot Tunnel running underneath the mighty river the River Thames.

Greenwich Foot Tunnel is a brilliant piece of Victorian Engineering built-in 1898 when the UK was a world leader. Greenwich Foot Tunnel was designed by Sir Alexander Binnie and was opened on 4th August 1902. At that time the construction cost was  £127,000. Walking through the tunnel is free.

The Greenwich Foot Tunnel is accessible by spiral staircases of 100 steps and large lifts at each entrance.

Walking through the Greenwich Foot Tunnel is as safe as walking along the London streets. The Greenwich Foot Tunnel is fully lit and a total of 14 fixed CCTV cameras are placed inside the tunnel and is completely safe and crime-free. Help points are provided within the tunnels and are monitored 24 hours daily.

The Greenwich Foot Tunnel hadn't reported any crime till now. It's completely safe to walk through the tunnel. For safety and security, CCTV monitoring is in operation throughout the tunnels, lifts, stairs. For emergency services please call 999.

The cyclists must dismount when using the tunnels. During peak travel periods, cyclists may be denied access.

The Greenwich Foot Tunnel is opened 24 hours daily. If the lifts are closed you can still access the stairs of the tunnel.
